Funkenfeuer - Schnetzenhausen

It took me more than four years in Friedrichshafen to go to the so called “Funkenfeuer”. This bonfire tradition just seems to be restricted to the swabian part of lake constance. At least, I never experienced it on the west side of the lake.
Brass music (including “Die Fischerin vom Bodensee”), Bratwurst, Most, snow and fire… that’s probably as german as it can get.

After the Iron Man 70.3 last year in Zell am See / Kaprun, I was already feeling a little bit annoyed of endurance sports, especially endurance sports training. Nevertheless I decided to take advantage of the fitness level I had achieved over the last three years of training in the pool, in the saddle and in my running shoes. I decided to do my first marathon. “This one and that’s it. Back to fun sports.”, that’s what I thought.
Cross-Country Skiing - Heiligenberg

Incredible amounts of snow arrived during the last days. Unfortunately I am facing a lot of work at the moment, which means that I do not have enough time to spent whole days on my touring skis or at carnival. Luckily it snowed also in the lower regions. That looks beautiful, gives me a winter feeling and furthermore provides me the possibility to go Cross-Country skiing without spending much time in my car. Unfortunately I had to find out that there is a trail for cross-country skiing on the mountain “Höchsten”, but this one is just for classical back-country skiing. As I decided to learn skating, I had to move on to a small village named Heiligenberg. Still it is only about 20 km away from Friedrichshafen.

What a great weekend.
On saturday I joined the DAV group for a little skitour at the Ochsenlager near Hittisau. On sunday I got the chance to go ice skating near Reichanau. As the weather forecast ist predicting warm weather for the next days, I had to take this change even though it wasn’t much ice. But it is always worth it.

Reinhold Messner apparently does not get tired of telling the world that the “Dolomiti” (Dolomites) are the most beautiful mountains of whole world. And this guy without a doubt, has seen a lot.
However, it was a beautiful day. Saturday skiing the whole day long. On Sunday I was practicing some backcountry skiing. About 1050m upwards in about three hours was enough for me after some weeks with the focus on relaxing.
