A few weeks ago I was told that there would be a lot of crayfish around the Island Reichenau within Lake Constance. The population seems to have grown massively in recent years. Many residents do not know anything yet. So I went out to see if I could one of them. I wasn’t successful during daytime, but at night it was pretty easy.

Yesterday Sascha Lobo gave his speech on re:publica 2013, which is currently taking place in Berlin. Many people like him, some tend to hate him. I personally find his column in Spiegel-Online interesting. And this is not that “I don’t like it, but I don’t want to say this” kind of “interesting”. Really interesting. Not always, but most of the times.

Animated GIF - for any reason

I don’t know why, but for any reason everybody - at least every blog - needs its own Animated GIF.
Well then…

April Skiing
This post was originally published on d1db3k.blogspot.com on 2013-04-08. I migrated this post in January 2026.
I thought the skiing season was over, but as the spring has not yet arrived, me and my flatmates decided to head to St. Anton Austria to enjoy winter.
This was the first time for me to go skiing in April, I think.
Lesson leared: The sun is quite intense in April. You should use sunscreen, otherwise you might look like an owl or reccoon when you get back to work on monday. ;o)
Slackline

Today I was slacklining for the first time within probably more then three years.
As I still feel a little bit weak due the flew which caught me after the trip to Italy last week, this was the perfect choice to spend the afternoon:
Mild temperatures, sunlight, … spring is definitely arriving. I had some great days in the snow this season, so I can confidently say “Goodbye winter - welcome spring”.
Passo Tonale - Freeride

For the last four days I have been to Ponte di Legno in Lombardy, Italy. I went there with the DAV Friedrichshafen in order to go freeriding in and around Andamello at the Passo Tonale.
Even though we decided not to go skiing today because it was snowing and the visibility was pretty bad, I would say we were lucky with the weather conditions overall. The forecast was rather bad. In the end we had three out of four days with powder, some sun and great alpine adventures.
Funkenfeuer - Schnetzenhausen

It took me more than four years in Friedrichshafen to go to the so called “Funkenfeuer”. This bonfire tradition just seems to be restricted to the swabian part of lake constance. At least, I never experienced it on the west side of the lake.
Brass music (including “Die Fischerin vom Bodensee”), Bratwurst, Most, snow and fire… that’s probably as german as it can get.
Basement Training

After the Iron Man 70.3 last year in Zell am See / Kaprun, I was already feeling a little bit annoyed of endurance sports, especially endurance sports training. Nevertheless I decided to take advantage of the fitness level I had achieved over the last three years of training in the pool, in the saddle and in my running shoes. I decided to do my first marathon. “This one and that’s it. Back to fun sports.”, that’s what I thought.
